About Ryan
I started in media the way a lot of people my age did: teaching other people how to use the tools. For five years at Apple I taught Final Cut Pro, which meant explaining codecs, timelines, and delivery to everyone from first-time editors to working professionals. That habit of making technical work legible has stayed with me.
From there I moved into the plumbing: compression at Deluxe, digital fulfillment at Warner Bros. Television, metadata and technology analysis at NBCUniversal during the 2016 Rio Olympics, content media management at Sony Pictures, and post-production and digital asset operations project management at ZOO Digital. Different companies, one through-line: media has to arrive somewhere, on time, in spec.
At Fox I spent five years on live content operations, moving from Content Operator III to Senior Content Operator to Supervisor of Digital Operations for Venu Sports, across FOX Sports, FOX News, FOX Weather, and FOX Entertainment. That's where the live-sports work I'm best known for happened: Super Bowl LIV in 4K, the World Series in 4K, the FIFA Women's World Cup in 4K. Live is unforgiving, and it taught me how to make calls quickly with incomplete information.
Most recently I worked as a Media Streaming Engineer with The Walt Disney Company's Media Engineering group, on the streaming side of the same problem: pipelines, playback, and the systems that keep both healthy.
I'm looking at this from two directions at once. I'm open to full-time engineering and operations roles, and I take on contract engagements where an organization needs someone to run a live event, untangle a media workflow, or stand up automation around it. I'm not naming a home base here because I'm flexible: I'm open to New York and Los Angeles, open to relocating, and set up to work remotely.
